Students with Disabilities: Challenges and Recommendations

This study focused investigating the experiences of students with Disabilities. This particular brief discussed the challenges and recommendations of the UCLA students with disabilities. (December 2016).

Managing Expectations: Adjustment Experiences of First-Year International Students

This study focused on investigating the experiences of incoming first-year international students at UCLA, specifically, how first-year international students adjust to life at UCLA and how their interaction with peers mediates this adjustment process. All research was conducted by the Undergraduate Research Partnership Initiative with the assistance of SAIRO staff.

Experiences of LGBQ Undergraduates at UCLA

This study, conducted by nine undergraduate students as part of the Undergraduate Research Partnership Initiative, explored how undergraduate LGBQ students navigate campus, how and where they found support, and how an LGBQ identity shaped their overall experiences at UCLA. (August 2013)

A brief from the 2011 Diverse Learning Environments Survey that examines the experiences of students with disabilities including their academic and social engagement, diversity-related activities, global skills, and perspectives on campus climate. Analysis also considered differences in these experiences by disability types. (July 2013)

Diverse Learning Environments Survey:Variations in STEM Student Experiences

A brief focusing on students enrolled in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) majors and how various subgroups of students in STEM experience their academic and co-curricular environments. This report is based on data collected from the 2011 Diverse Learning Environments survey. (May 2013)

Safety and Silence: Conversations about Race/Ethnicity Among Students of Different Backgrounds

A team of ten undergraduate students within the Undergraduate Research Partnership Initiative conducted semi-structured interviews with undergraduate peers that explored the extent to which conversations between individuals of different racial/ethnic backgrounds occur, where such conversations occur, as well as the quality of these interactions. 2010 Transfer Student Transitions: A Report on Focus Group Findings

A report presenting findings from four focus groups with undergraduate transfer students in an effort to learn about their transition process to UCLA. The purpose of the study was to identify students‘ various needs before coming to UCLA and during Fall Quarter so that programming and services geared toward transfer students might be improved. Exclusionary Spaces

A team of six undergraduate students from academic disciplines across campus participated in the design, data collection, and analysis of a Participatory Action Research (PAR) project exploring community and sense of belonging at UCLA. Students explored the following research questions: how does exclusion influence the undergraduate experience at UCLA? How/where do students feel excluded? Why is it important for the student to be part of the space from which they feel excluded? What individual or institutional strategies/tools help undergraduates navigate what they perceive as exclusionary spaces? (March 2011)

International Graduate and Professional Student Experiences at UCLA

This report provides a summary of international graduate and professional student experiences based on data from the 2010 Graduate and Professional Student Survey. Key comparisons and areas of difference with domestic graduate and professional students are presented and specific international student issues are addressed. (April 2011)
